斯蒂文斯理工学院成立于1870年,和麻省理工、加州理工、伦斯勒理工学院并称为美国四大理工学院,是美国历史最为悠久的理工学院之一。学校坐落新泽西州的霍博肯市,与曼哈顿岛隔河相望,占地55公顷,是一所在美国的教育和研究领域中位居前沿的理工类大学。该校的教授和学者在自然科学及管理科学领域享有盛誉,培养出了诺贝尔物理学奖获得者费瑞得·瑞恩、诺贝尔化学奖得主欧文·朗缪尔及现代管理学之父费雷德里克·泰勒等杰出人才。在最新一期USNEWS全美大学综合排名中位列第75位。斯蒂文斯理工学院在微生物、纳米电子技术、无线通信、环境科学以及工程、材料科学和工程、技术治理等领域的教学科研都处于领先地位。尤其是电信管理专业在美国名列前茅。史蒂文斯工程专业本科毕业生深造获得博士学位的比例仅低于麻省理工和加州理工,名列全美第三,是一所具有雄厚的教学和科研实力的理工学院。2010年斯蒂文斯理工学院在华盛顿特区的罗纳德·里根大厦开放了新的校区以提供技术管理和系统工程等方面的教育。学院当前着力于商业与技术的结合以使学生不仅获得创造的技能,并且获得领导和管理项目的能力。
