Ø The Master of Finance (MF) program provides the most in-depth theoretical and applied finance training currently available. Aimed at experienced working professionals, the program is delivered on Wednesday evenings and alternating Saturdays over 20 months. This enables students to advance their career without leaving work, and be able to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom immediately in the workplace. Students come from a variety of backgrounds such as financial risk, portfolio management, corporate finance, equity research, accounting, sales and trading, insurance, pensions, and legal settings.

Ø The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Rotman School of Management, offers a full-time professional Master of Financial Economics (MFE).

The four-semester (F/W/S/F) MFE program consists of three semesters (F/W/F) of cross-disciplinary graduate-level course-work at Rotman and the Department of Economics as well as a mandatoryinternship at a financial institution in the summer (third) semester. The MFE program’s unique academic-experiential curriculum means that MFE students:

1. Take MBA-level courses at Canada’s top Business School (such as: Corporate Financing, Options & Futures, Advanced Derivatives, Security and Portfolio Analysis)

2. Take graduate courses at Canada’s top Economics Department (such as: Financial Econometrics, Risk Management, Financial-Economics)

3. Gain real-life work experience at top financial institutions – all students must do a paid internship at a financial institution

Master of Financial Risk Management

Ø The Master of Financial Risk Management (MFRM) is designed to prepare students who excel at finance and quantitative analysis for careers in this in-demand sector. A bridge between academic and professional life, this full-time, ten-month program allows students to fast-track into the finance industry—giving them a competitive edge over applicants with only an undergraduate degree.

Students will gain a better understanding of the different types of risk, the regulatory environment, and how different financial institutions manage uncertainty. They consider the ways risk is measured and managed, looking at systems and models currently used within the financial sector.

Students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience during the Risk Management Project which takes place midway through the program. They will work on a real risk issue that is relevant and of interest to financial institutions. During the two-month project, students will be taken out of the classroom and into industry, working in-house with practising risk management professionals.

Ø The Department of Statistical Sciences offers a Master of Financial Insurance (MFI), a full-time professional program focused on producing students who will become leaders in the global financial insurance industry. The program stands on three pillars: statistical methods, financial mathematics, and insurance modelling. It provides students with education at the interface of these domains with sufficient depth and breadth so that students can provide both detailed analysis of specific financial insurance risks as well as provide a bird’s-eye perspective on how the embedded risks affect the firm enterprise wide.

Master of Management & Professional Accounting

Ø The objective of the Master of Management & Professional Accounting (MMPA) is to educate future leaders of the accounting profession at the master’s level in management and at the professional level in accounting, assurance, tax, finance, performance management, and related subjects such as management skills and professional capabilities.

Students from any undergraduate background may apply. Advanced standing may be granted. The MMPA program may be taken in one of three formats depending on the applicant’s business or accounting background:

a 27-month format by applicants with no such background, or

a 24-month format by applicants with some background, or

a 12-month format by applicants with extensive, specific background.

Each of the three MMPA program formats includes co-op work terms; each has been approved as an Accredited Program by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.

Ø The Master of Accounting and Finance Program (MAccFin) is North America’s first graduate degree that integrates both accounting and finance business disciplines. Offered at the Scarborough campus (UTSC), MAccFin delivers a world-class, practical educational experience that prepares students for both the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designations and provides additional real-world co-op experience.

Ø The 16-month, full-time program is accredited by the CPA Ontario and the curriculum is based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge from the Chartered Financial Analyst® Program administered by the CFA® Institute. By completing the MAccFin, students will qualify for advanced standing in the Chartered Professional Accountant Professional Education Program (CPA PEP). Obtaining either of these in-demand, globally recognized and respected designations requires a commitment to higher standards of integrity and credibility, which can be essential to desirable employment.

Ø The co-op component builds on 40 years of experience and leadership in co-operative education at UTSC. During the program, students will have access to UTSC’s diverse portfolio of Canada’s most prestigious employers to complete a four-month co-op internship.
