新加坡管理大学--就业率超高的一所高校

Q1：新加坡的大学，我只听说过国立大学和南洋理工，SMU是什么样的一所大学？
SMU全称Singapore Management University，叫新加坡管理大学，又简称为新大，是与NUS、NTU一样，由政府资助的公立、自治大学。
成立于2000年1月12日，是新加坡第一所由政府资助的私立大学。2000年，SMU的首个校舍投入运作。该址曾是创立于1929年的莱佛士学院（Raffles College）和后來的新加坡国立大学（National University of Singapore）之所在地，邻近华侨中学（Hwa Chong Institution）。2005年，SMU正式迁入勿拉士巴沙(Bras Basah)的永久校园，并举行了首届毕业典礼。其后，校方将经济与社会科学院拆分为经济学院和社会科学院。同年，新加坡教育部将新加坡管理大学与新加坡国立大学及南洋理工大学改制为自治大学，至此，SMU成为了与NUS、NTU一样，由政府资助的公立、自治大学。
Q2：SMU跟其他两所公立大学一比，名气这么小，是不是实力也很弱？
正如众多gter爱拿新加坡和香港相比，大家也爱拿SMU和NTU、NUS相比。这边我稍微简单介绍一下~
1.作为创办较新的大学，SMU的历史比较短
NUS虽然正式创建是1962年，但是可以堂而皇之地上溯到1928年的Raffles College和1905年的King Edward VII Medical School。事实上NUS就是把05年当做创校日的。
NTU是1991年创办的。SMU2000年创办，是这三所里面最年轻的。所以，正如一位SMU的学生所说，
Unlike NUS, which enviably have just celebrated a centennial several years back, we only started several years back. Our fresh graduates have the dual challenge (and responsibility?) to build this reputation one accomplishment at a time and to avoid missteps and bad judgment that shake the foundation laid by our alumni.

2.三所大学的定位不同
其实仅从名字上，我们就能有一个大概的印象了。NUS比较综合性，NTU略偏理工，而SMU则是立足经管专业。大家可以在这三所学校的专业设置上，得到更为详细的信息~这边不列表了，只把链接给附上，需要的同学可以点下面的查看。

上面说了一通废话，其实重点想告诉大家，尤其是想去SMU的同学，综合实力我们要看，但是更有价值的是SMU的经管专业的实力
可能很多同学挺关心排名的，这边列举一下我找到的排名信息，有兴趣的同学可以点击查看详细。
SMU was ranked 52nd worldwide in 2012 by The University of Texas at Dallas Top 100 Worldwide Business School Ranking.
SMU was rated as a 4 Palms Business school (world top 300) by Eduniversal in 2011.
SMU (as an entire university) was ranked by Webometrics Ranking Web of World Business Schools (Jan 2012) as 8th out of all business schools in the worldand 1st in Singapore.
SMU was ranked 10th worldwide and 1st in Asia by The Accounting Review for the number of refereed articles accepted for publication in 2009.
SMU was ranked 65th worldwide and 2nd in Asia in the 2012 Tilburg University Top 100 Worldwide Economics Schools Research Ranking based on research contributions in leading international journals in the preceding five-year period.
SMU was ranked 135th worldwide for Social Sciences and Management in the 2012 QS World University Rankings
另外，我还想提醒一下大家注意排名以外的信息，SMU的发展前景还是非常非常值得期待的。前面也介绍了，NTU是91年建立的，现在过去了20年，就比SMU早了9年，如今实力怎么样？
坡国政府每年投入巨资扶植这三所大学，这一点不要忽视，来这边学习能获得的远比想象的要多。
3.关于授课方式
这也是我发现的比较有意思，并且往往会被人忽视的一点。SMU和NUS相比，授课方式更美国化。
这边专业招生规模要比国大小一些，意味着每门课更高的师生比，更多的互动。从网上看到一些学生的评论，似乎也就是这么回事。
I chose SMU over NTU and NUS, because of it's unique seminar style of education. In addition, SMU is the only university that emphasise on character building and ways to thrive in todays market. I am convinced because of what they can provide for my future, not because of how good they are.
SMU is the only uni in singapore that have an american-style of education, and it's one of its kind.
I am not sure about NUS,as it isn't my considerations when I applied. But I am sure that there are student out there who chose NUS Business, because it suits their needs.
There are many students who adapt extremely well in the SMU environment, they are those who speak up in class, contribute insightful comments, make impressive presentations, and are willing to stay overnight to finish projects. Yet, there are also those who don't adapt well, and to put it mildly, they don't enjoy their time here.
SMU只有十几年的历史，校长Arnoud De Meyer讲过，SMU前十年集中在本科生教育方面，之后的十年将会集中在graduate的教育上面，因为一个学校不能只因为teaching而为人所知。所以现在开了很多新的master和phd program。SMU的本科教育很强，着重在学生团队合作，表达能力，交流能力等实用方面培养，所以本科生的就业很有优势。毕业薪水最高的去年是Info systems，因为这几年银行招IT比较多，但如果长远看，还是BUSINESS和管理科等方面更有潜力。
SMU一共有六个school，如果光看research方面，目前搞的最强的是ECON，计量在全球第四的水平。跟Peter合作的几个老师都很厉害，每年都有几篇TOP journal发表，其次还有social welfare和宏观方面都有厉害的人物。Finance的Prof也都非常厉害，至少每个人都有一篇以上finance前三的journal发表。IS方面因为方向比较分散，在各个领域都有不错的文章发表，跟业界的联系也非常多，新建的lab有四五个，data和funding方面都是在singapore顶级水平的，每个方向也都有世界级的faculty在带。accoutancy和law school方面没有research的program，但account的MPA program就业率很好。law方面有JD和LLM的项目，就业的薪水方面都很好，但国际学生很少招也很难读。social science只有心理学一个Phd program，集中在marketing方面的心理学研究，具体了解不多。
School of business那边是master program by course最多的school，但很多都是刚开始，不知道具体就业情况。ECON那边会有MAE和MFE俩个program，就业情况有好有坏，尤其MFE是新开始的。SIS有一个MAIS新开的项目，俩年的项目，半research半coursework，还会给一半的奖学金。MITB有俩个track，因为招收有经验的在职学生比较多，所以就业情况对中国人参考比较小，但都是很不错的program，银行现在对IT的很喜欢。
